Carla Swallows
Carla is a bilingual strategic communications and marketing professional with 15+ years of experience developing high-impact, story-driven content across digital, print, video, and social media platforms. Carla spent eight years at the Texas State Aquarium, rising from Marketing Assistant to Marketing & Brand Manager, where she led award-winning campaigns, secured international media coverage with outlets including NPR, Reuters, ABC World News Tonight, Newsweek and The New York Times, and grew the organization's social media presence to 315M+ impressions. Carla's creative work has earned two Telly Awards, recognition from the American Marketing Association, and multiple American Advertising Federation honors.
Fluent in English and Spanish, Carla brings a passion for conservation, science communication, and connecting diverse audiences to meaningful causes. She is excited to bring that storytelling expertise to advancing the Harte Research Institute's mission for the Gulf.
When not behind a camera or keyboard, Carla can be found enjoying time with her family hiking in Big Bend National Park, exploring the mountains of Ecuador, or sailing Corpus Christi Bay.
